http://ecogg.com - Looking to ecoGG and saves energy!

Although the semester is over I wanted to introduce a search engine called "ecoGG" which is based on the Google search engine.

ecoGG Google is a search engine with a black design. The concept comes from the environmental blog treehugger.com . It is stressed that using a black Google is possible to save 750 hours of megawatt (750 MWh) per year

What is the idea?
A normal display consumes 74 watts to provide a white web page, but to present a black only consumes 59 watts. This means that you get a reduction of 15 watts which is 20.27%.
It asserts that through color change and 200 million web page presentations to Google per day, it could save the energy produced by a nuclear power plant!

With ecoGG can search online and save energy at the same time and all that with the success of Google!

Brief recap of my blog

In my last post I wanted to present a brief wrap and the most important aspects of my blog.

1. My definition of globalization

• Elimination of borders, about countries, exchange of knowledge and skills • Homogenization of cultures
yet convey our identity and share it with others
• Globalization is what we do in class - we use our knowledge and experiences.

2. Globalization and the environment
a) The problem:
• Progress in technology, mobility of goods and people, need for distribution and communication networks
• High demand for natural resources
• Companies must be competitive - to produce at prices lower
• High operating and pollution
b) The characteristics of good "environment"
• It is a free good - there is no market price, but there is little
• Environmental issues affect everyone
• All benefit from the protection of the environment but not everyone pays, so do not be carried out
c) The solution:
• It will be a challenge for globalization
• Create a market for good "environment" (emission certificates)
• Participation should be mandatory for all
• In a global world everyone should play by the same rules - legislative framework for the world

3. Nanotechnology in Austria
• Is the research, development and production of objects and structures at the molecular
• Cosmetics, cleaning products, textiles, filters, colors and surfaces
• Case study: Bussines Mondi Paper - Neox: quality increased (color-laser), fixation of toner, especially consistency to avoid congestion of papers

4. Internet advertising

problems • The aggressive implementation of animations, graphics, sounds ...
• Sophisticated technology to avoid advertising (pop-up-blocker)
• Almost is not perceived
• Effectiveness is reduced (article in "Die Zeit")

5. The first alliance between low cost airlines
Niki Lauda in 2003: Niki Luftfahrt GmbH - Objective: Low-Cost-Carrier Alliance AirBerlin

• Objective: East European market
• Coordination and exchange of services (Call- Centers, travel agencies, electronic data processing)

6. The power of Google
• State monopoly (Germany: market share 90%)
• Society of Google: Experts have concerns about the influence
• Participates in many areas of life through services
• Save each order on your browser
• Databases huge performances in Internet

7. Red Bull, an Austrian company worldwide
• Energy Drink - the basic recipe was born in Asia
• In 1997 started the internationalization America, Australia ... Today is worldwide brand
• Value: EUR 8 billion
• Key to success: advertising - spends a considerable part
• Promotes all you have to do with risk and youth
• The most important is the image of the brand

Supplement: Contextual advertising

In this post I would like to correct a linguistic misunderstanding about my sixth inning trying to Internet advertising. It seems I was wrong with the words: Internet advertising (which I have described as very aggressive) and contextual advertising. So I worked on this issue in order to clarify the differences between these terms.

The Internet advertising simply means that you use the Internet to carry out the Development Policy as a means of transmitting information the consumer.

The contextual advertising, is to integrate the "ad links" from advertisers on websites with a specific content, segmented by topic . Thus, when a user enters a page with a specific editorial content will show you some links specially adapted to the user profile that visit.

A clear example would be the vistit a user on a website selling cars. During navigation in this website are for example links that offer "safe cars." Since the user is interested in buying a car, is also a potential customer of the insurance companies that offer car insurance.

The fundamental v ent is that you can achieve greater coverage of public objective with this technique.

Google offers a sophisticated service where you can take advantage of contextual advertising:

"Contextual advertising, also called" content targeting "and s a to innovative feature of Google AdWords that allows you to get more customers in the simplest way possible. Effective targeting technology keywords Google allows AdWords ads or n high degree of orientation in content pages of our extensive network of partner sites and products quality, such as email programs and newsletters. Contextual advertising improves the web user experience by displaying useful ads. "

Red Bull gives you wings Advertising

Analysis of a global brand

In this contribution I wanted to talk about an Austrian company reached to create a global brand that is taking advantage of globalization in a perfect manner. Everyone knows Red Bull, red drink, also known as Energy-Drink, whose basic recipe and was born in Asia changed between 1984 and 1987 in order to be marketed as a beverage throughout the world.

The global export The company was marketing its product with great success in Austria when in 1994 the marketing of Red Bull was possible in Germany. In 1997 began international marketing in the markets of America and Australia were also important target markets. In 2006 the introduction of Red Bull in the Asian market, first in Japan, was the main objective.
Today Red Bull is present almost everywhere in the world and has a brand value of 7.96 billion euros.
According to an article published in his Red Bull website sales figures between 1994 and 2000 were as follows:

• 1994: 91.2
• 1995: 101
• 1996: 107
• 1997: 157
• 1998: 251
• 1999: 515
• 2000: 794
(all sales figures are in millions of euros)
Source: Red Bull

The current profit figures are:
• 2004: EUR 1.668 billion
• 2005: 2.149 billion
euros Source: http://www.orf.at/ticker/208455.html

Who created this world record?

Just as "Red Bull gives you wings", the clever advertising gives wings to the Red Bull brand. To analyze the Austrian company's advertising, it is important to know their main target. The first to drink the energy drink were young. Students had to stay awake to study and drink mixed with alcohol all the species in their night clubbing.
In my opinion the most important factor to address the brand's success was the fact that the principle of worldwide marketing said it was too dangerous to mix the energy drink with alcohol (because of the caffeine and taurine) and therefore all the young people made. Now there are alcoholic beverages that have adopted the name Red Bull on their behalf as VodkaBull, WhiskeyBull ...

To keep this target Red Bull invest a substantial portion of its profit in advertising mainly consists of the promotion of different activities.
The company has always used extreme sports for publicity, always with the aim of establishing and maintaining adequate image of the consumer. Red Bull
promotes everything that has to do with risk and youth:

• Free Skiing • Windsurfing • Paragliding

• Motorcycling • Snowboard
• Formula one flight
• Events • Sports
limit as basejumping ...

• Ice Hockey • Soccer • And much more

The company says that the most important is what the consumer thinks when you have a bottle of Red Bull his hand.

Verticle Blind Headrail Too Long

Google - NIKI

A Brief History
The word "google" is a modification of the word "googol" was invented for refer to the figure consisting of one with a hundred zeros (10 ^ 100). The company says this name means to express their main objective is to place and manage the immense amount of information provided by the Internet.
Google has its origin in the United States. The company was founded in Mountain View, California, where two students (Larry Page and Sergey Brin) Stanford University invented the world's most popular search engine. The company officially started its business in the autumn of 1999. Back in September 1999 had very good results in 3.5 million hits per day. In 2004 significantly increased access to a number of 200 million.

Here is the first page of Google: http://web.archive.org/web/19981111183552/http://google.stanford.edu/

Google today
Today Google is a company that has approximately 12,200 employees and has a profit of 592.3 million dollars (438.03 million euros).
Google is no longer just a search engine but has become a brand with tremendous value. An article in a famous German newspaper said that Google already is the brand with the largest value in the world. The company has already outgrown persecutors as General Electric, Microsoft and Coca Cola. The brand has a value of 63.44 billion dollars (almost 49 billion euros).

Google's power in some markets
Google already has a monopoly. For example in the German market, Google has a market share of 90%. For this reason experts in the field of media have concerns because of the power to influence people. So some of them already speak of a company Google.
In my opinion it should reflect on the power of this company. She participates in many areas of life because of their services (search, Gmail, Google-Earth, Google-Talk, Picasa, Blogs, word processing programs ...).
A troubling fact is that Google saves every request in your browser that is connected to the IP address. This means that you can easily find out who has searched for what things through the Google service. The company maintains huge databases that contain the Internet habits of millions of people and it is likely that other organizations have access to these bases in order to use the data collected.

Although the success of this company is very impressive, I argue that especially in the field of information monopoly situation only one company can be unsettling because it presents information to decide what to whom. Here I refer to the video I put on the title "A fiction."

effective success and the first alliance-Low-Fare Carriers

In this post I wanted to introduce a low-cost airline in Austria. In 2003 the famous Formula One pilot and entrepreneur Niki Lauda founded the "Niki Luftfahrt GmbH ." Lauda previously had founded his first airline to be called "Lauda Air". Unresolved after discussions between the founder Niki Lauda and managers of the company "Austrian Airlines", the largest Austrian airline had bought a considerable share of the "Lauda Air", Niki Lauda had to leave his house.
Lauda decided to found a new business, buying the insolvent company "Aero Lloyd." At first had the name "FlyNiki" but now they changed the brand "NIKI".
As Niki Lauda had always thought that the low cost airlines are future in Europe, he has created a new company with the goal of being a "Low-Fare-Carrier."

Along with the second largest airline in Germany "AirBerlin" the company NIKI created the first alliance between two European low cost airlines . AirBerlin bought a stake of 24% of what NIKI NIKI made it possible to take advantage of a well-developed network.
Today the two companies coordinate together various economic activities.

The director Niki Lauda (Niki) and director Joachim Hunold (AirBerlin) released the overriding objective of this alliance will be the action in the Eastern European market. They also want to increase participation in the Austrian market. Since AirBerlin is the leader in the airport of Palma de Mallorca and has a very sophisticated network owners seek to incorporate the Austrian company AirBerlin network. Overall
alliance based on sharing and coordination of services between the two parties. The German company offers its services such as Call-Centers, travel agencies and electronic data processing in Germany. NIKI in turn offers its services to AirBerlin in Austria.
The two companies are encouraged throughout the aviation industry with his presence and get a considerable share of the market.

How Much Does It Cost To Fill A Cavity?

Internet Advertising

The number of products marketed by the web is increasing considerably today. Which also increase customers seeking information on any product to have a basis for decision. It is therefore essential for both large enterprises and SMEs to achieve an adequate presence on the Internet. However, in many cases not necessary to create an online store on the Internet but to develop a website that allows customers interested informed at all times. This page is intended to attract customers, inform them and finally induce them to buy a product.

A site must meet the following criteria:
• Information should be structured clearly key to the top of the page
• You must save with pictures and graphics to reduce the time required to load the page.
• It is essential that the structure of the navigation is logical and clear to the user to find needed information quickly and easily.
• Advertising collective, that is common business activities, increases the chance of a perception.

Effectiveness of contextual advertising - Can be irritating to customers?

What is the main difference between mainstream media and contextual advertising? Advertising in the press functions simultaneously, ie the user sees both advertising and articles. Advertising on television and radio work sequentially, which means that advertising is temporarily separated from other presentations.
Advertising Internet shortcut works with other tools such as animations, graphics, sounds, wallpapers, popups ... Often these instruments are used very aggressively so I doubt the effectiveness of advertising.
The article in "Die Zeit " says a lot of advertising is not perceived by users, there is also a sophisticated technology that avoids the presence of contextual advertising on the Internet. By these measures the effectiveness of advertising is often considerably reduced.
anyway to take advantage of the benefits that brings online contextual advertising should work very carefully because the important thing is that the web page designer does not like but the client.

Corporate Service Anniversary Speech

Nanotechnology - in general and in Austria

My next entry deal of nanotechnology and would like to present the overview that I found on the Internet as well as a sector of its implementation, which is the paper industry in Austria.
The word "nano" comes from Greek and is very similar to the English word for "dwarf." Is a unit of measurement and means one millionth of a millimeter. To get a clearer picture, take for example the width of a human hair is 80,000 nm.
The term "nanotechnology" involves research, development and production of objects and structures that are at least one dimension smaller than 100 nm.
Nanotechnology is the basis for many visions of the future as it offers many new possibilities in areas such as medical engineering, chemical industry and around the area of \u200b\u200bcommunication and information. Nanotechnology is used for many years in products like cosmetics, cleaning products, textiles, filters, colors, and many surfaces. You can find nano-particles in the food.
The most famous example is a special coating window. Using nanotechnology allows water DESAP VĂnculo t seems evenly.

Nanotechnology
revolutionize the paper industry's article of 2 January 18

007 two months ago the Austrian company Mondi Business Paper introduced a revolutionary kind of role. Using nanotechnology particles that company created a paper called "Neox" which has a surface that improves the printing quality especially when it comes to color printers, laser type. Nanotechnology enables the toner is fixed and that much better so the quality is increased significantly. Besides the new role offers a whiter color and a firm consistency that helps avoid problems such as congestion of paper in copiers for example.

Globalization and the environment

This paper wanted to devote to environmental problems that are linked to globalization. As we know, pollution and environmental destruction and its impact on our lives are issues much discussed and very modern. In my opinion it is essential to reflect on this issue and that environmental changes severely affect each of us
As we saw in the first classes of our subject, globalization brings rapid progress in technology, a high mobility of goods and people, a heightened need for communication networks and more. This evolution has meant that the whole society, both producers and consumers, has a high demand for energy and natural resources.
To meet global demand companies have to be competitive, which means they try to produce at lower prices, which results in a high exploitation and pollution of environmental resources.

What is the environmental problem exactly? What are the characteristics of good "environment"?
  • The most important thing is that environment is a free good. That means that there is a market that determines price. As we know perfectly well that the "environment", say water, air and earth, does not exist in abundance, in other words, is a scarce commodity. Since there is no market for the environment, not priced to reflect their scarcity. Having no money, you can not determine the costs that relate to the environment that causes a product. That is to say that the price of a product will never reflect all the costs caused by product. Second
  • should be noted that environmental problems are not problems that affect only a certain area or region but are global problems affecting all countries in the world. The actions of one country directly affect others, such as energy production through nuclear power near the border of the neighboring country affects the environment of that country.
  • environmental protection is always linked to the problem "free rider." This means that if a country decides to protect its natural environment produces positive externalities also serve other countries, although others do not pay for these externalities. Because of this phenomenon environmental protection is often not carried out because a country has cost while others can also profit shares.

What is your conclusion? What can be done about these problems linked to the environment?

In my opinion it is clear that you must create a market for good "environment." The Kyoto Protocol and the emissions business licenses are first steps in this direction. The fundamental problem is that the Kyoto protocol is not mandatory for all countries, which lead to environmental protection does not work As we saw earlier. Therefore need to create a binding legal framework for countries around the world. It is important to establish appropriate limitations for all world trade and that everyone plays by the same rules. I think that's the biggest challenge in the future if we will want to protect our vital space sustainably. Therefore it is necessary to start creating adequate legislation to European Union level and I'm sure we are able to take the role of striker.

Austria and the Internet - E-commerce

E-commerce in the European Union
According to a Forrester Research study Internet commerce has been very popular and successful in recent years. In 2006 the UK was the European leader in terms of e-commerce. It had a volume of Internet trade of 43 billion Euros. Germany was the second most important country with a volume of 23 billion Euros.
The study predicts that online commerce will grow to 76 billion Euros in the UK and 62 billion Euros in Germany until 2011.

The evolution of e-commerce in Austria
Compared to the large EU countries the total volume of online trade in Austria is relatively small. On the one hand we are a very small country and we are known across to be very reserved with regard to Internet commerce. I guess this has to do with our overall retention as a means of payment such as credit card. It can be noticed in general that Austrians tend to use the safest methods in terms of money when it comes to saving as much of the payment. For example, the preferred method for saving money is the savings account but could earn higher interest with investment vehicles such as stocks or letters. However
online trade will increase to 7 billion Euros in Austria, which is quadruple the 2006 volume

A fiction

In this post I wanted to present a very interesting link I found on the Internet. The video shows a fiction of a world in which the press has come to exist. In 2015 the world is governed by very few companies use any information we have given them to offer more sophisticated services. The price we must pay is objectivity and freedom of movement ...
Could this fiction become reality? What can we do against this development?

Highly, highly recommended!

What is globalization? - A subjective view

As we saw in the first class course, it is very difficult to find a generally valid definition. Each has a different understanding of what globalization is. It is defined as elimination of borders and barriers and bringing different countries, the increased exchange of information, knowledge and skills ... For some of us these facts have resulted in a homogenization and loss of cultural identity and diversity.

one hand I agree with this statement. Surely the process of globalization brings losses in some areas but do not skip the generation of new knowledge through the cooperation of countries and cultures. For me not necessarily lose parts of our identity, but the transmit and share with others. Unlike other cultures take advantage of allowing us to enrich our own. In my opinion
Krugman and Obstfeld (book International Economics) set a good example, talk about cultural homogenization and that it is evident that happens but if we see for example the famous movie "Matrix" of Hollywood. Of course everyone knows this movie cinemas and all the show but "Matrix" presents us not only a culture but has battle scenes that clearly originate in Hong Kong films.
I do not mean that all Hollywood productions extend our knowledge of other cultures, but some do.

For me globalization is also what we are doing every day in classes in both Alicante and in Innsbruck and elsewhere. Work together with students from other countries and take advantage of their knowledge and experiences. Is there a loss of cultural identity in this case?
do not know if I've drawn a very positive image of globalization, but I'm glad the discussion!

Welcome to the blog of Alex Liegl

Welcome to my blog on the subject "Economics of Globalization" at the University of Alicante . At first let us introduce: My name is Alexander Liegl and I'ma student of the second cycle of International Economics at the University of Innsbruck . It is a race that is required to study a year abroad. I'm glad to have the opportunity to study in University of Alicante and to build up my experience of both living and studying in Spain.

In my blog I will focus on the important aspects that have to do with globalization today. Try to present both points of view objective and subjective viewpoints. In my opinion, the subjective views are particularly important especially when we speak of a complex term such as globalization. As each of us has an imagination quite different from what globalization is, its advantages and disadvantages, must share the views to broaden their horizon.

Thank you for your interest and hope my comments will also contribute to a interesting and active discussion. Alexander Liegl
