What is globalization? - A subjective view

As we saw in the first class course, it is very difficult to find a generally valid definition. Each has a different understanding of what globalization is. It is defined as elimination of borders and barriers and bringing different countries, the increased exchange of information, knowledge and skills ... For some of us these facts have resulted in a homogenization and loss of cultural identity and diversity.

one hand I agree with this statement. Surely the process of globalization brings losses in some areas but do not skip the generation of new knowledge through the cooperation of countries and cultures. For me not necessarily lose parts of our identity, but the transmit and share with others. Unlike other cultures take advantage of allowing us to enrich our own. In my opinion
Krugman and Obstfeld (book International Economics) set a good example, talk about cultural homogenization and that it is evident that happens but if we see for example the famous movie "Matrix" of Hollywood. Of course everyone knows this movie cinemas and all the show but "Matrix" presents us not only a culture but has battle scenes that clearly originate in Hong Kong films.
I do not mean that all Hollywood productions extend our knowledge of other cultures, but some do.

For me globalization is also what we are doing every day in classes in both Alicante and in Innsbruck and elsewhere. Work together with students from other countries and take advantage of their knowledge and experiences. Is there a loss of cultural identity in this case?
do not know if I've drawn a very positive image of globalization, but I'm glad the discussion!
