E-commerce in the European Union
According to a Forrester Research study Internet commerce has been very popular and successful in recent years. In 2006 the UK was the European leader in terms of e-commerce. It had a volume of Internet trade of 43 billion Euros. Germany was the second most important country with a volume of 23 billion Euros.
The study predicts that online commerce will grow to 76 billion Euros in the UK and 62 billion Euros in Germany until 2011.
The evolution of e-commerce in Austria
Compared to the large EU countries the total volume of online trade in Austria is relatively small. On the one hand we are a very small country and we are known across to be very reserved with regard to Internet commerce. I guess this has to do with our overall retention as a means of payment such as credit card. It can be noticed in general that Austrians tend to use the safest methods in terms of money when it comes to saving as much of the payment. For example, the preferred method for saving money is the savings account but could earn higher interest with investment vehicles such as stocks or letters. However
online trade will increase to 7 billion Euros in Austria, which is quadruple the 2006 volume
